Back in the days of Frank Sinatra and Rat Pack, home design elements from the rich and luxurious lifestyles of famous people living in Hollywood and Las Vegas permeated the public domain and can be found in homes throughout America. People want to be like Frankie, Marilyn, Elvis, and whoever they happen to see on their big screen so they try their best to match the look of the homes of famous people to their own homes. That is also not a difficult thing to do. Yes, rich and famous people may spend more money on their furniture than ordinary people, but they use furniture in a style that is easily made cheap.
Mirror furniture at that time was very popular because it provided a clean and elegant aesthetic. When used correctly (read: economically) this type of furniture has a way of simplifying decoration in a room while increasing the look of wealth and venetian vanity mirror taste. But how do you achieve such achievements? How, by adding mirrored furniture, can you make the rooms in your house look luxurious and expensive when they really aren't?
This is how this type of furniture works very magically:
Open Room:
Have you ever noticed that a small room with a mirror looks twice the size? They have the ability to deceive the human eye so that the brain thinks that it sees more space than it actually does. A blank wall in a small room will make the room look closed and tight but as soon as you put a mirror on the wall, it looks like the wall is disappearing. The types of pieces with mirrors on them reach the same optical illusion.
Usually when you fill a room with your objects reduce from empty space. You still take space with mirrored furniture but that fools the eye into thinking there is a little space removed. If you take the bureau and place it "as is" in the room and then compare it to the same size bureau made of mirrors you will immediately see the venetian wall mirror difference.
Create Cold and Clean Aesthetics:
When you try to display a rich and famous look, you must play the stereotype. When you think of rich people, do you think warm and loving or cold and cruel? Most people will choose the latter. Good furniture will create a clean, smooth, and somehow cool aesthetic for the room.
