I have driven 18 wheels for 11 years. People always ask "is it difficult to drive that thing." The answer is yes and no. Once you are accustomed to driving 18 wheels, it's not difficult. But it takes a lot of practice, patience, and attention to be good. You know a man has been driving a truck for a long time when he could blind him into a pit between two trucks without ever having to stop. For all of us, it's a good idea to have an extra set of eyes watching from outside the truck, running slow, and not worrying about looking stupid when you need to make corrections.

Trucking school teaches you the basics. They teach you what you need to know to pass the exam in your country. They teach you how to answer questions the right way and how to turn the wheel to place the trailer where the testers want it. They DO NOT teach you trucks. I would call the trucking school "Intro to Trucking, 101," if you want. Don't get me wrong, trucking school gives you basic knowledge about good trucks. You can learn the physics behind the jack knife and some basic tips to avoid truck accidents. You can learn the basics of maneuvering. You can learn the rules and dump truck hino regulations of the world of trucking. The more you know when you leave trucking school, the more complete you are to handle the reality that you will encounter on the road.

I didn't know there was a leading company that didn't need a trucking school. Some companies provide their own trucking school and teach you for free as long as you drive it for a certain period of time - usually 6 months to a year.

When I go to trucking school, there are 4 ways to pay.

Pay an advance.

Get a loan, pay the trucking school up front and pay it back to the borrower (whether it's a bank or a relative).

Take a loan from a trucking school and pay it back with lots of interest.

Government funding through unemployment or military programs.

If you choose to take out a loan from a trucking school, know the interest they charge. Also read the loan contract carefully. Some loans punish you for paying them off early and some require you to pay all interest whether you pay them off earlier or not.

If you choose to work for a company that provides training in return for your commitment to drive a car for them, pay attention to what the applicable rates are for new drivers. Let's say that the trucking school costs $ 3,500 and the fare for a solo driver is 30 cents per mile (cpm). If you choose to go through a company trucking school and they want you to drive for them for one year at 20 cpm, that's a difference of 10 cents. In one year, if you drive 100,000 miles, you have made $ 10,000 less than you should have done for 30 cpm. You need to decide whether the initial investment in trucking school is worth the loss of income you might face.

However you pay for it, trucking is a must in many cases. This is the gateway to good payment work.
